Introduction to Focusing

8th & 9th June 10am-5pm – Online

http://www.suzimackenzie.com/focusing-training.html

Focusing is an enlivening way to connect with the rich complexity of our embodied human experience, to develop a more caring and supportive relationship with yourself. Focusing can support us to deepen our ability to extend the core conditions to ourselves and others. Learn to trust this natural process and how our organism knows what it needs and will tell us, given the right conditions. The Intro course can lead to the Focusing Skills Certificate.

What is contemporary Person-Centred theory? an experiential CPD with Sheila Haugh

Saturday 13th April, 10am-4pm
Brighton, Community Base, BN1 3XG

https://www.tickettailor.com/events/brightonpersoncentredcommunity1/1173732

When ‘contemporary’ is added to ‘person-centred’ it oftentimes seems to mean a move away from principled non-directivity and a licence for the practitioner to bring more of their frame of reference under the guise of congruence or ‘the relationship’. This day will consider other meanings of ‘contemporary’ within person-centred theory and practice. Specifically it will focus on the on the increasing need for principled non-directivity in our cultures today and how the notion of congruence has been developed. Perhaps most importantly, we will explore how a challenge to white, western psychology in general and person-centred psychotherapy in particular, may influence our way of being with those we are endeavouring to help in some way. The day will include input from Sheila and a chance to dialogue and reflect with colleagues on these issues and perhaps others.

Sheila Haugh is Director of Studies for the Dip/MSc Contemporary Person-Centred Psychotherapy and Application at the Metanoia Institute, London.

Reconnecting with Person-Centred Theory: Using theory to support and deepen your person-centred practice with Helen Skelton

Saturday 13th July, 10am-4pm

Brighton, Community Base, BN1 3XG

Watch this space for booking link to come!

Most counsellors gather ideas outside their original training, continually expanding their personal therapeutic vocabularies. The resulting ‘multilingualness’ can lead to depth and richness, but it can also feel a little chaotic. Many express a desire to reconnect with their original therapeutic principles and regain a sense of fluency in that way of being. In addition, an ongoing friendship with theory plays an important role in therapeutic practice, offering a core philosophy from which we can assess, monitor and develop our decision-making, and be sure we are doing our best for our clients. In this workshop we will review the main areas of person-centred theory, look at the coherent story it forms, link it to practice and consider how it can support us as a reliable and powerful ‘internal supervisor’.

Helen Skelton is a person-centred psychotherapist and clinical supervisor and teaches on the MSc in Contemporary Person-Centred Psychotherapy at the Metanoia Institute.

New therapy room for hire in Westbourne Street, Hove.

Suitable for 1:1 and couples counselling, group supervision and CPD.

Person Centred Reading Group

The reading group has been meeting for many years and offers an important way of connecting with other person centred trained therapists We meet regularly to enhance our understanding, be stimulated by each other’s views and to enjoy the company. Each evening has some pre meeting reading and after our discussion we plan the next topic, date and venue. We meet on Friday evenings, typically in Lewes in a member’s house. Contact person Geraldine Pass geraldinem1264@gmail.com.

Group for recently qualified Person-Centred practitioners

Have you recently completed your person-centred training? Perhaps you are in the midst of setting up private practice, working out what to do now, or how to be yourself in a person-centred way after completing the training. Then this might be for you!

Having qualified a year ago from Metanoia I have missed the support of others and the explorative space offered through the training. My hope is that this group could provide some of that by offering an open, supportive, non-judgemental space for discussions with peers in a similar position. The agenda will be flexible to meet the needs of those attending. It could be what it means to be person-centred finding our unique way with that, or perhaps practical discussions relating to setting up in private practice, or sharing our own experiences to listen and learn together. Let’s see what is present when we meet.

The plan is to meet monthly on the first Saturday of every month. The next meeting will be on Saturday November 4th at New Road Psychotherapy Centre, Hove, from 10am till 12pm. There’s a charge of £7 (plus booking fee) to cover the room cost only. To book your place to attend please follow this link: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/group-for-recently-qualified-person-centred-practitoners-tickets-699524385267.

For any questions on the group feel free to email Jenn on jennpaynegregory@gmail.com. This group is affiliated with the Brighton Person-Centred community and sits alongside the regular monthly meetings that take place on the third Saturday of the month at Brighton Friends Meeting House as well as the Walking Community and Reading Group.

Examining Whiteness

Saturday 25 November 10:00 AM – 1:00PM We want to come together to address injustices and inequalities of racism through personal and collective work on the impact of Whiteness. Register soon because space is limited. We hope you’re able to join us! Cornerstone Community Centre, Church Road, Hove, BN3 2FL. To book, please go to: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/736551484317?aff=oddtdtcreator.

Please direct any further questions to Frances or Brennan on email: frances@bassetconsultancy.co.uk email:brennan@sussexcounsellingcollective.co.uk.

If you have any questions about attending the meetings, or if you have any ideas or feedback about things we can consider to strengthen the Brighton Person-Centred Community, then please contact Suzi (suzimac55@hotmail.com) and/or William (willjaj@virginmedia.com). This highly experiential workshop will help you learn to listen to your body and trust the wisdom it can share with you. Learn about the different ways we process our experience and how we may approach Focusing differently depending on our ‘processing style’. You will also experience the practice of Clearing a Space, which can be part of the Focusing process or used as a standalone process for managing overwhelm.

Intro to Focusing leads on to the Focusing Skills Certificate for those who are interested in gaining a full foundation in Focusing for personal and partnership use. The Focusing Practitioner programme can be considered after this as a way to bring Focusing more fully into your life and work, including counselling or other professions.
